Attorney Marie Fahnert has concentrated her career on families. As a family law and divorce lawyer, Ms. Fahnert aims to get the best possible outcome in your case. Where appropriate, she will make use of cutting-edge legal developments or advise you of the benefits of negotiation.
Ms. Fahnert believes that most issues are best resolved through agreement, negotiation or mediation. However, she is always ready for those situations where issues must be litigated.
Ms. Fahnert is also prepared for those unusual situations where an appeal is needed because a trial could not resolve all the legal issues in your case.
In fact, Ms. Fahnert recently won a rarely-granted Supervisory Order from the Supreme Court of Illinois in a child-custody case where guidance was needed at the trial level.
During her law school years, Ms. Fahnert worked at Northwestern School of Law’s Small Business Opportunity Clinic, the Center on Wrongful Convictions and the Center for International Human Rights.
In 2006, Northwestern's Bluhm Legal Clinic paid for Ms. Fahnert to travel to the Supreme Court of the United States for the oral argument of Oregon v. Sanchez-Llamas, a case where her professor represented the government of Mexico.
Before law school Ms. Fahnert worked as an English teacher in China (2 years), a computer programmer (Java), and a berry picker (!).
Education: Northwestern School of Law, J.D.
Languages: Spanish, German, some Chinese.
